We rely on law enforcement to uphold the law, but what happens if a member of law enforcement becomes the victim?
A recent $2.4 million discrimination settlement against the Boston Police Department reaffirms the message that no one is above the law. Congratulations to the female police officer who was awarded this settlement in January after courageously taking on the Boston Police Department with the help of a prominent Boston firm. This officer was the first woman to be ranked a deputy superintendent of the Police Department’s Field Services Bureau. Despite this accomplishment, she was demoted to sergeant in 2018 and later placed on administrative leave in retaliation for filing a complaint against a lieutenant she alleges assaulted her. Her actions and settlement are commendable as part of an effort to promote equality among female police officers.
